The Muslim Seniors Care Services has sought to serve Muslim seniors and their families for nearly a decade. Our focus is on providing our seniors with social, educational, cultural, and religious support. To do this we not only work for Muslim seniors but also with Muslim seniors to ensure we offer both educational and social services that are catered for our seniors.
As members of a racialized segment of the Canadian population, Muslim seniors do not have a wide variety of services that support and connect with them on a religious and cultural level. Because of this gap of services, it is easy for our seniors to become isolated and placed at a higher risk of experiencing elder abuse due to lack of awareness and social support. MSCS focuses heavily on preventing elder abuse by engaging, educating, and empowering our Muslim seniors with tools to identify, prevent, and seek support when encountering situations of elder abuse.
The MSCS is governed by a volunteer board of directors that works in tandem with an executive team of management volunteers, project staff and youth-led teams which all strive to both serve and represent our Muslim seniors.
Our focus is on serving the unique cultural, social, religious, and educational needs of our Muslim Seniors. MSCS aims to leave a lasting impact on the lives of Muslim seniors who may find themselves isolated due to linguistic, cultural, or mobility issues. We aim to provide leadership development, networking, and volunteering opportunities as well as companionship for seniors so that they can engage with and contribute to the Muslim community and Canadian local fabric. We believe in helping our seniors build a strong sense of self-worth by giving them the floor to demonstrate their leadership qualities and the wide range of skillsets that they have acquired through their lived experience.
